Committed to making a difference

One child at a time, one educational therapy technique at a time

Applying the Starfish method

There is a story written by Loren Eiseley that describes a young boy's attitude when a man questions the boy's intent on trying to save all the starfish before low tide.

"The man laughed to himself and said, 'Do you realize there are miles of miles of miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?' 'You can’t make any difference.'"

"After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the surf, then smiling at the man, he said: 'I made a difference to that one.'"

At Joy in Learning Discovery Center, with all of our educational therapy and Woodcock-Johnson IV® Achievement Testing services, we engage with your child fundamentally believing that a difference can be made, no matter the challenge.

About the
Certified NILD Educational Therapist

Hello! My name is Cherene Comick, M.Ed, and I am the owner and founder of Joy in Learning. I have worked as an education director in a private school for over 15 years and received my NILD educational therapist certification in 1994.

When I moved to Fayetteville, NC to be closer to my grandchildren, I decided to share my professional expertise with the Cumberland County community. I absolutely love what I do! I love helping reach their full potential by using evidence-based best practices.

If you think there is no hope for your child in school, meet with me first and let me unlock your child's true capabilities.
