Meet your Certified NILD Educational Therapist!
Hello! My name is Cherene Comick, M.Ed, and I am the owner and founder of Joy in Learning.
I became a NILD Educational Therapist in 1994. I’ve worked as an Exceptional Education Director in a private school for 23 years and counting, planning programs for students with special needs.
When I moved to Fayetteville, NC to be closer to my grandchildren, I decided to share my professional expertise with the Cumberland County community. I’m also a proud member of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, committed to staying connected and contributing to the local families I serve.
I absolutely love what I do! I love helping students reach their full potential by using evidence-based best practices tailored to their unique learning needs.
If you think there is no hope for your child in school, meet with me first. Let me help unlock your child’s true intellectual capacity.

Hello! My name is Cherene Comick, M.Ed, and I am the owner and founder of Joy in Learning.
Meet your Certified NILD Educational Therapist!
I am passionate about helping students grow in skill and confidence. I have a special interest in helping older students who have progressed through their school years yet have recently discovered that they have dyslexia, processing issues, or ADHD.
NILD educational therapy uses a variety of techniques to build focus, improve reading skills, and develop clear and efficient thinking. Our brains can change, grow, and develop new pathways. This is so exciting to me! There is hope for every single person to improve their cognitive skills.
I hold a master’s degree in educational therapy, and I am a licensed teacher with a degree in English Education. I am a licensed NILD educational therapist, and I am certified by the International Dyslexia Association as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist. I homeschooled my three children for 20 years and loved the homeschooling lifestyle. On a personal note, I love cats and enjoy flower gardening.
I am happy to be working with Cherene at Joy in Learning Discovery Center, and I look forward to helping your student succeed!

I’m Alise McCain, M.Ed, and I am happy to be working with Cherene at Joy in Learning Discovery Center.
Meet your Certified NILD Educational Therapist!
NILD therapy is more than just tutoring, it is a holistic approach designed to help your student develop and strengthen cognitive processes. Our individualized and guided learning program can help students strengthen cognitive processes that enable educational and subject matter success.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in social work and have served 18 years in the Army. Currently, I am working towards a master’s in education with specialization in educational therapy. I am NILD level 1 trained, in pursuit of level 3 certification while working part-time at Joy In Learning Discover Center.
Additionally, I am a proud parent to three very active children who attend private school. As a parent of a neurodiverse child, I understand some of the challenges many parents face when trying to find resources to help educate a loved one. For this reason, I was called to become an educational therapist, and I would be honored to help you and your child navigate their learning process.

My name is Teresa Tootill, and I am excited to be a part of the Joy In Learning team and support your student’s educational journey.
